  • Cat 3. Translational

After the April 15th 2024, 6:00 PM submission deadline, abstracts are no longer accessible and therefore it will not be possible to revise or resubmit them after that date and time. Please proofread abstracts carefully to avoid errors before the submission deadline.

Abstract acceptance/non-acceptance status will be available by April 20th 2024. Please ensure that the email provided for the presenting author is accurate as all correspondences will be sent via email, to the presenting author.

Please make sure your e-mail settings will allow e-mails from secretariat@apcobonehealth.org to ensure important program participant related information to get through your spam filters, etc.

Abstract Copyright Transfer Agreement will be electronically signed during submission. Your selection of “Yes” grants permission to have your abstract on display at the meeting. Your selection of “No” prohibits display of abstract.

All abstract withdrawal requests must be received in writing (via email) by April 15th, 2024.

The presenting author of an accepted abstract must register and pay the registration fee for the meeting. Abstract presenters need to register in the appropriate category and pay the appropriate registration fees under each category.

All accepted abstracts will be scheduled in a poster presentation. However, we will be selecting 4 best abstracts for oral presentation during a special session devoted to it on Day 2 of the main congress. The presenters of the best oral abstracts also will be notified before the April 20th 2024 deadline.

All oral and poster presentation including question-and-answers will be conducted in English. Presenters of oral abstracts may request assistance from the moderator who will repeat or rephrase questions from the audience or may ask a colleague in the audience to assist with translation.

Abstract Grading

Abstracts successfully submitted by the April 15, 2024, 6:00 pm deadline will be blindly reviewed. Our intent is to be receptive and inclusive without compromising scientific integrity. As such, a team of 2 to 4 experts, from the Scientific committee will independently reviews abstracts in their category that best fits their expertise. Abstracts submitted for consideration must be an original idea, concept, or an improvement or revision of a previous idea. Abstracts are selected on the basis for the following:

  • Scientific Merit – direction toward the development of a new or improved diagnostic procedure or idea.
  • Organization – well organized, easy to follow and understand.
  • Practicality – should be available, logical, and feasible.
  • Presentation – should be clear, brief, show understanding of the subject matter.
  • Technical quality – the idea must stand up to scrutiny. Facts and data must have scientific backing.

All abstracts must be submitted in English with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication.

1. If identical abstracts are accepted at another meeting outside of APCO SOOMBODS, then one must be withdrawn and Organizing Committee member must be notified. If acceptance of a previously presented abstract is discovered prior to presentation, it will be withdrawn and acceptance of future abstracts will be jeopardized. If dual presentation of identical abstracts is discovered after presentation, the acceptance of future abstracts may be jeopardized and any award associated with the abstract will be withdrawn.

2. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the author(s) to present it if accepted unless due to extenuating circumstances. Failure to present, if not justified, will jeopardize future acceptance of abstracts for future meetings/conferences.

3. There is no limit to the number of abstracts an investigator may submit. If selected, the presenter must be one of the co-authors listed. If multiple submissions are accepted, if there are schedule conflicts, the presenting author must arrange for a co-author to present.

Abstracts in all areas of Metabolic Bone Disease and those related to clinical, translational as well as basic science research will be accepted to APCO SOOMBODS 2024. However, preference will be given to the following areas: Advances in Osteoporosis Management, Epidemiology and Health Economic Evaluation of Metabolic Bone Diseases, Rare Bone Disorders, Imaging in Osteoporosis and the use of Artificial Intelligence in Osteoporosis.

Case reports and Case Series are also acceptable. However, as a general policy, case reports will not be accepted for oral presentations
